Short Film:

In this short drama, the main character has a nightmare about being homeless, which is the key theme for my film. The character is a young woman, who wakes up distressed after learning about the fact that her homelessness may actually become a reality.
My main character is one who is homeless and is young, as well as someone who is struggling to survive on the menial scraps that she can get her hands on.

In the short film, the woman gets up and makes a sandwich. On her way to work, she walks past a young homeless person which made her remember her dream and go back to the homeless girl. She offers her the sandwich.

Sub Genres

Sub genres by h_mariam on GoAnimate
In this second clip that I created, I have decided to have my characters converse specifically about melodramas which is the genre I have chosen. Melodramas appeal to the emotions of the audience. Melodrama targets the emotional side of the audience which is what I am aiming to do.

Drama- film genre research

Genre: Drama

The genre of drama is one which exerts a realistic story yet thrills the audience and allows them to sympathise with the characters with an in depth experience of what the characters are going through. The characters personalities are developed as the story progresses and the audience get to know the characters properly.

There are various themes in drama specifically there are many underlying emotional themes , for instance poverty, drug abuse, family problems and violence. Drama is rather broad, even within itself because it includes many subgenres such as romance, sports and crime. In dramas there is usually a main character or more than one and the story follows their life and the troubles as well as blessings that they experience and are gifted with. Our film will be a tradegy film because it will cause a ripple of emotions through the audience thus will make an impact.

Conventions of Drama

The Conventions of Drama by h_mariam on GoAnimate

In this short video I created, the two characters are discussing the significant genre of drama. For my film, I have chosen to create a melodrama which is based on real life issues that the audience can deal with. As my main character is a long time sufferer and victim of cancer, and feels that she is a burden on her family. Thus this feeling, makes her run away from home. There are many issues which my target audience can relate to such as depression, pain, neglect and emotional distress. Many young people can relate to the problems of the protagonist as they are likely to experience the same as they are adolescences and are growing into adults. This transition teaches them any things and brings many new experiences towards them.
